Create AI Agent Study Plan

Microsoft Applied Skills study plan for creating AI agents in Microsoft Foundry, adding knowledge and tools, orchestration, and lab review.

This plan prepares Microsoft Applied Skills: Create an AI agent as an interactive lab. Because Microsoft Learn says the credential retires on May 28, 2026, verify live status before investing a long study cycle.

Three-day route

Day Focus What to do
Day 1 Foundry orientation Review the root guide and Microsoft Learn page. Practice creating a project or agent, selecting a model/deployment, and writing clear instructions.
Day 2 Knowledge and tools Add a knowledge source, test grounded answers, configure a simple tool/action, and check input/output behavior.
Day 3 Orchestration and validation Practice multi-agent orchestration, edge cases, unsafe or missing information, and end-to-end lab evidence.

If you only have one evening

  1. Read the cheat sheet and memorize the build sequence.
  2. Practice creating one narrow agent with clear instructions.
  3. Add one knowledge source and prove the agent uses it.
  4. Add or inspect one tool path and test a failure case.
  5. Recheck the Microsoft Learn retirement warning before launching the assessment.

Readiness signals

  • You can create an agent with a clear purpose and behavior constraints.
  • You can connect a knowledge source and test grounded answers.
  • You can add a tool without giving the agent unnecessary reach.
  • You can explain when multiple agents are better than one broad agent.
  • You can test happy path, missing context, and unsafe-input behavior before finishing.
