Autonomous Agents Study Plan

Microsoft Applied Skills study plan for Copilot Studio autonomous agents, agent flows, event triggers, error handling, and human handoff.

This plan prepares Microsoft Applied Skills: Enhance agents with autonomous capabilities as an intermediate Copilot Studio lab. Microsoft Learn expects familiarity with Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Microsoft Dataverse, and basic agent building.

Four-day route

Day Focus What to do
Day 1 Agent and knowledge Create or inspect a Copilot Studio agent, add knowledge, and test grounded behavior.
Day 2 Agent flows as tools Build or configure a flow action, define inputs/outputs, and validate tool behavior.
Day 3 Event triggers Configure autonomous triggers, narrow conditions, and test when the agent should and should not start work.
Day 4 Errors and handoff Practice retries, fallback, user messages, human interaction, escalation, and final validation.

If you only have one evening

  1. Read the cheat sheet and memorize the autonomous agent sequence.
  2. Practice one knowledge-backed agent response.
  3. Review one flow-as-tool scenario and identify required inputs, permissions, and output.
  4. Review one event trigger and one human handoff scenario.
  5. Recheck Microsoft Learn for live assessment tasks before launching the lab.

Readiness signals

  • You can explain why a trigger is scoped enough.
  • You can configure a tool action without giving the agent broad reach.
  • You can identify what should happen when a tool fails.
  • You can decide when the agent must ask, confirm, escalate, or hand off.
  • You can test autonomous behavior beyond the happy path.
